The Scissors That Made Our Fades Better

The Scissors That Made Our Fades Better

It started with a small conversation.

One of our team members told me, “I bought a pair of scissors from Sean, and they made my fades much better.”

That immediately caught my attention.

When we talk about improving a fade, we usually talk about clippers—the blade, the guards, the lever or the technique used to blend each section. It was interesting to hear that a pair of scissors, not a clipper, had made such a noticeable difference.

So, of course, I had to check them out.

As soon as I looked at the scissors, I understood what made them different. Most scissors are designed primarily to cut length or remove texture. Sean’s scissors, however, had a slightly different design at the tips and teeth. It was a small difference, but I could immediately see how it could create a softer and more controlled blend.

I asked Sean to sell me a pair.

After using them myself, I realized that the design really did make a difference. They allowed me to work through heavier areas more precisely and connect the clipper work to the longer hair more naturally. The scissors did not create a great fade by themselves, of course. Technique will always be the most important part. But the right tool made that technique easier to execute.

Once I proved it to myself, I ordered a pair for every member of the Eddie’s Edition team.

The Tool Was Only the Beginning

When Sean heard that everyone would receive the scissors, he told me he wanted to demonstrate how to use them properly.

Owning a good tool and knowing how to use it are two very different things.

Teaching coworkers can also be more difficult than teaching beginners. We all cut hair every day. Everyone already has their own habits, techniques and opinions. Standing in front of other professionals and explaining your process requires confidence, preparation and generosity.

Sean handled it perfectly.

During the class, he did more than demonstrate a pair of scissors. He showed us where the precision in his fades really comes from.

Our team had always been curious about Sean’s work. His fades consistently look clean, controlled and carefully finished. In the class, he broke down his approach and explained the details that are usually difficult to notice simply by watching the final result.

He shared how he identifies weight, how he approaches the darker areas of a fade and how he uses the scissors to soften the transition without creating unnecessary lines. The scissors were helpful, but the real value was understanding Sean’s thought process behind every movement.

He shared his secret sauce with us.

We Grow by Sharing

At Eddie’s Edition, we have team members from many different backgrounds. Some come from traditional barbershops, while others come from salons. Some are strongest with fades, while others specialize in longer hair, color, texture or perms.

That difference is one of our greatest strengths.

No one person knows everything. However, when someone shares what they have learned, the entire team becomes better.

Sean could have kept his techniques to himself. They were part of what made his work special. Instead, he chose to explain them openly and help everyone around him improve.

At the end of the class, I thanked him for sharing so much with the team.

Sean simply said:

“No problem. We are family.”

That sentence represented exactly what I want Eddie’s Edition to be.

We are not just individuals working next to one another and serving our own clients. We are a team that learns together, challenges one another and shares what we discover.

Sometimes that process starts with a formal meeting or a carefully planned class.

This time, it started with a small conversation about a pair of scissors.

Thank you, Sean, for sharing your skills, your experience and your secret sauce with the Eddie’s Edition family.
